Platelet Rich Plasma, also known as ‘PRP’ is an injection/micro-needling treatment whereby the client’s own blood is used to rejuvenate the treatment area such as the face or scalp for hair loss.

A small volume of blood is drawn up from the client (approx 10-20ml depending on treatment area) and spun using a machine to separate various components of the blood. This is a relatively small amount compared to blood donation which can remove 500ml. The desired aspects of the blood Plasma are extracted accordingly.

When PRP is injected into the treatment area it causes a mild inflammation. This triggers the stimulation of the platelets to release several enzymes to promote healing and tissue responses including attracting stem cells and growth factors to repair the damaged area.

As a result, new collagen begins to develop, tightening and strengthening the skin area. This induces remodelling of the tissue to a healthier and younger state.

Pre and Post PRP Care

Most frequently reported temporary side effects are swelling, redness, bruising, tenderness, tingling, numbness, lumpiness, and a feeling of pressure or fullness at the injection sites in the treated area.

You can apply cool gel mask to reduce swelling and relive the symptoms, but this will only last for up to 24 hours.

Avoid Aspirin and NSAIDS for 5-7 days after treatment to minimise bruising and swelling. However, paracetamol can be taken if needed for pain.

For 24 hours after treatment avoid touching or scrubbing at the injection sites.

Sleep on your back with your head elevated with an extra pillow for up to 5 nights.

Avoid direct high heat for 24 hours after treatment. This includes sun exposure, sauna, steam room, hot showers, and strenuous exercise.

Do Not Wash your skin for 12 hours.

Avoid makeup for 24hours. Use mineral make up for the first 72 hours.

Avoid Facials, Facial Massages, or Laser Treatments for 2 Weeks Afterward.
