Dermal fillers are natural or synthetic gels that are injected into the skin to volumise, lift and improve the appearance of lines. The vast majority of dermal fillers are completely biodegradable and temporary however there are some permanent fillers available as well. Although the idea of a more permanent filler may seem more appealing to a patient, they are generally associated with more complications and longer-term problems and rarely used in practice. In the UK, there are over 160 brands available on the market and the vast majority consist of hyaluronic acid although other products are also used including calcium hydroxyapatite, polycaprolactone, poly-L-lactic acid and agarose gel.

Dermal fillers can be used to treat:

Cheeks
Marionette lines (mouth-to-chin)
Nasolabial lines (nose-to-mouth lines)
Lips
Smokers lines
Chin / jawline

Dermal fillers can be injected into the face and are often called “liquid facelifts”, simply because they offer many of the benefits of a surgical facelift, without the downtime. These soft tissue fillers can add more volume and provide immediate results at a lower cost than surgery.

Dermal fillers FAQ's

How does it work?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar chain molecule found in all skin and soft tissues throughout the body, identical across species. It attracts and binds water in the skin, providing volume and hydration, but also ‘cushioning’ and supporting collagen and elastin fibres and providing a medium, or carrier, for chemical messages between the cells.

What can I expect?

The smooth consistency of the products allows Shriya to administer them easily and smoothly. They also contain 0.3% lidocaine to reduce injection pain, for a more comfortable treatment experience.

The filler gel is injected under the skin in the target area using a fine needle. The gel will then fill facial lines and wrinkles or adds subtle volume.

Are there any side effects?

Immediately after treatment you may see some redness and swelling at the injection site and it may feel tender to touch. These side effects typically disappear within 24 hours. Some clients experience temporary bruising in the week following.

How many treatments would I need?

In your initial consultation Shriya will determine how much filler (mls) and which filler product will be needed to achieve your desired results. Once this has been established you should be able to have the procedure in a single session.

Further treatments will be required to maintain results every 9-12 months as the filler product breaks down.

What results can I expect to see?

Dermal fillers mimic the lifting effect of your skin’s natural hyaluronic acid to keep the skin hydrated and elastic. The effects of the filler treatment can last between 6 months and 12 months depending on the type of product we use.
